The Big Horn County Historical Museum is located just off I-90 Exit 497 one miles east of Hardin, Montana and only 15 miles from the famous Battle of the Little Bighorn.
The museum complex consists of twenty historic structures; two exhibit buildings and a main exhibit building, which features a rotating exhibit, offices, visitor center and gift shop. This 22-acre site, once a flourishing vegetable farm, was donated in 1979 to the Big Horn County Historical Society for a museum. The farmhouse and barn are part of the original farm site. The other historic buildings have been moved to the museum from various locations in Big Horn County.
As you walk on the boardwalk that leads to the buildings that make up our museum you will see items that belonged to the first Americans who roamed the high plains in search of the buffalo; traders and settlers that came in search of adventure; and the early day homesteaders who toiled for a living by farming and raising livestock. They all played an important role in our area's development.
As well as the historic buildings there are exhibits of horse drawn equipment, farm machinery and early day automobiles.
The museum complex continues to develop and guests will see the latest efforts as they tour the site and find buildings that are in different stages of restoration. The continuing development is a testimony to the commitment and the strength of the partnership of private and public efforts to preserve the heritage of our area.

Directions: The Big Horn County Historical Museum and State Visitor Center is located off Interstate 90 at Third Street Exit 497. Another way to the museum is at Exit 495, which will go through downtown Hardin, turn left at the stop light. The museum site is located 1/2 mile east of Hardin, which is in south central Montana near Billings
