Coffrin's Old West Gallery is proud to display the incomparable works of the early western photographer L.A. Huffman. This is a unique historical collection of some of the most beautiful photographs available today. L.A. Huffman came to Montana Territory in 1878 to serve as post photographer at Fort Keogh, located near what is now Miles City. Noted for the clarity of his works, L.A. Huffman captured on film the essence of our early American Indian warriors, U.S. Army soldiers, buffalo hunters, bullwhackers, the colorful people of old Milestown (Miles City) and then, later, the cattlemen. His subjects of our early cattle industry included ranches, round-ups, cowboys and vistas. These works portray the West as it really was, allowing the viewer to glimpse a moment in time that can never be repeated. Huffman stayed in Montana for the remainder of his life, photographically recording the changes that occurred here. The collection spans his creative efforts from 1878 - 1921. He left behind what many believe to be the best portfolio of the American frontier. Reproductions of Huffman's works are available from the gallery. These beautifully reproduced photographs reflect the sense of pride and dignity common to the people of that period. The L.A. Huffman collection consists of over 1,000 negatives, with approximately 200 reproductions available at one time. Coffrin's Old West Gallery welcomes the opportunity to share this marvelous collection with you. It is one of the finest available, and it is sure to provide you with the same sense of wonder it has all of us. .The Bozeman Chamber of Commerce offers free brochures that include a detailed map to the gallery. The AAA travel office also offers this map.
