If a picture paints a thousand words, then you'll discover hundreds of ancient stories when you visit the Bear Gulch Pictographs, 23 miles southeast of Lewistown. Among the 2,000 pictographs (paintings) and petroglyphs (etchings), you'll see figures of warriors holding shields and clubs, and ochre red elk and bison, along with other designs drawn by Native Americans depicting scenes from their lives. Tours are $10.00 per person, but the entire family is only $25.00.Visitors of all ages are welcomed, from 6 months to 101 years. Our tours ranged from singles, to families, to family reunions, regional corporate meetings with catered lunches, to fossil digs and days spent with archeologist and paleontologists. Schools from the area are touring and doing research in several areas from fossils to ancient art classes to local history and ancient history and advanced biology. In the spring of 2004 we will open up a brand new visitors center and a primitive campground for your pleasure.
