Fischer Outdoor Discoveries (FOD) specializes in small group tours to see wolves, bears and other wildlife. We lead annual trips toYellowstone and Glacier National Parks. Authors and conservation leaders Hank and Carol Fischer lead all trips. Hank and Carol are co-authors of The Montana Wildlife Viewing Guide and Paddling Montana. Hank worked for Defenders of Wildlife for 25 years as their Northern Rockies director and was a leader in the effort to restore wolves to Yellowstone Park and central Idaho. He's the author of Wolf Wars, which tells the wolf restoration story. FOD's signature trip is the annual wolf and bear quest to Yellowstone National Park. The June trip coincides with the birth of thousands of elk calves in the park, which triggers frenzy of predation. It's the best time of the year for observing wolves and bears. In an average year we'll see 15-20 different bears and a similar number of wolves. And that's not to mention bison, elk, pronghorn, moose, bighorn sheep, trumpeter swans, pelicans, bald and golden eagles, peregrine falcons, foxes, coyotes, river otters and badgers. Learn the natural history of wolves and bears. Discover the fascinating relationship between predator and prey. Explore the far-reaching implications of having wolves back in the Yellowstone ecosystem. Investigate the future of the grizzlies in the lower 48 states. Get an insider's perspective on the politics behind the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone and central Idaho, as well as a conservationist's viewpoint on what it takes to maintain these species in the wild. Why travel with Fischer Outdoor Discoveries' Our trips are small and personal. You get to know your guides and your traveling companions. You will gain an insight into conservation as well as biology. The trip is all inclusive: food, lodging, transportation, park fees, etc. And finally, you'll meet some of the leading wildlife experts in the region and have the opportunity to talk informally with them in the field. What our clients say: 'Over the last 35 years I've taken nature trips all over the world, and this was the best ever. Great people, incredible wildlife viewing.' Susan Lamb, Michigan 'It will be a lot more fun and productive now to seek out wildlife in our own area thanks to the techniques and attitudes you instilled: the importance of being there at the right times of day, how to scan hillsides and valleys for animals, and - most important of all - the virtue of patience.' Jim and joy Ames, California 'We had a great time in Yellowstone, best wolf watching ever. We would have never seen so much without you both.' Harriet and Robert Jakovina, California 'I had a wonderful, wonderful time. The most exciting trip of my life! I learned so much. I am still reliving some of those sightings and dramas that played out.' Sarah Tyler, North Carolina 'One of the best trips I have ever taken to see wild animals. Hank was the best guide for this kind of trip you could have. I got some of the best wildlife photos I have ever taken.' Frank Coorsen
