Authors and conservation leaders Hank and Carol Fischer lead all trips. Hank and Carol are co-authors of The Montana Wildlife Viewing Guide and Paddling Montana. Hank worked for Defenders of Wildlife for 25 years as their Northern Rockies director and was a leader in the effort to restore wolves to Yellowstone Park and central Idaho. He's the author of Wolf Wars, which tells the wolf restoration story.

FOD's signature trip is the annual wolf and bear quest to Yellowstone National Park. The June trip coincides with the birth of thousands of elk calves in the park, which triggers frenzy of predation. It's the best time of the year for observing wolves and bears. In an average year we'll see 15-20 different bears and a similar number of wolves. And that's not to mention bison, elk, pronghorn, moose, bighorn sheep, trumpeter swans, pelicans, bald and golden eagles, peregrine falcons, foxes, coyotes, river otters and badgers.
