Lewis & Clark Trail Adventures, founded in 1989 by Wayne Fairchild, provides quality outdoor adventure for travelers and recreationist's who have imagined the places and sense of wonder described by Lewis and Clark. With that same sense of exploration and discovery, you can paddle the rivers and hike the trails. Paddle with us down the Alberton Gorge, a great whitewater section of the Clark Fork River. Our full and 1/2-day trips leave daily during the summer from our office in downtown Missoula. Enjoy the long Montana summer days on our specialty trip, a dinner float through the Alberton Gorge. You will enjoy a relaxed pace on the river and an outstanding gourmet BBQ. During spring run-off, plunge down the Lochsa River. A river the Nez Perce called 'rough water' boasts over 20 adrenaline pumping class IV rapids. Get off the beaten path and walk in the last true remaining footsteps of Lewis and Clark on the Lolo Trail, where little has changed since the expedition crossed this ancient trail. Called Nee-Me-Poo by the Nez Perce, this travel route was used for centuries before Lewis & Clark by Native Americans of the West. We offer hiking, biking and walking tours ranging from 1-day to 3-day adventures, novice to advanced. Experience firsthand why Lewis & Clark described this area as the most challenging yet majestic portion of their journey. Because of the primitive road through this area you will have the opportunity to explore Lewis & Clark camps rarely visited in the last 200 years. Plan the ultimate Lewis & Clark trip and combine a Lolo Trail trip with a Missouri River Canoe trip. Our Missouri River trips are based in Fort Benton, MT and travel through the famed 'White Cliff' section. For more information on Missouri River trips see us under Fort Benton, MT with more photos too! Also based from our Missoula office, 5-7 day trips down the Main Salmon River of No Return. This spectacular trip journeys 90 miles through the largest wilderness area in the lower 48 states, and the second deepest canyon in the US. On this premier river, you will enjoy friendly class III whitewater, lazy scenic views and sheer canyon walls. Without the obstructions of dams this river deposits fine white sand rivaling any ocean beach. From camp, you can hike up a tributary stream and find a rarely visited fishing hole, play a game of beach volleyball or just sit in the shade and enjoy an ice cold beverage telling stories of the day. We offer specialty trips featuring gourmet camp cuisine and wine, specialty beers, kayak instruction, artists afloat, and whitewater workshops. Our professional guides are outdoor enthusiasts with knowledge of the history, geology, flora & fauna of the areas, and always put safety first.
