Mortimer Gulch Campground is located in the Lewis and Clark National Forest in Central Montana at an elevation of 5,000 feet. The campground is pack it in, pack it out and composed of two loops--upper and lower. It was reconstructed the summer of 1998. The lower loop has lots of aspen, while Douglas fir are more prevalent in the upper loop. This is bear country; practice proper food storage technique. There are 26 campsites and handicapped accessible restrooms. Gibson Reservoir, with an area of 1,296 acres, is nearby. A boat ramp is 0.5 miles from campground. Foot and horse access trails lead out of the campground to the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Please limit stay to 14 days. A small fee is required for the use of this campground.
Directions: In Augusta, take Manix Street west (toward Gibson Reservoir) 3.7 miles to Gibson Reservoir sign. At this intersection, turn right and go 21.8 miles to campground sign. Turn left into campground. Note: Manix Street turns into Forest Route 108. At the intersection, the road turns into dirt for 15 miles, then becomes paved for 6.8 miles to the campground.
