Big Creek Campground is pack it in, pack it out and located along the North Fork of the Flathead River, a designated wild and scenic river. At an elevation of 3300 feet, the campground encompasses 15 acres. There are 22 campsites. The understory is grassy providing minimum privacy between sites with many sites overlooking the river. There are plenty of trails for hiking, and the North Fork of the Flathead River is an excellent family float river. A hand launch for boats is provided. There is a free map, Open Road Map, available from the Hungry Horse Ranger District Office that, among other things, depicts 'put-ins' and 'put-outs' on the North Fork of the Flathead River. Big Creek empties into the North Fork of the Flathead River at the campground. The campground is 2.5 miles from the Camas Creek entrance to the Glacier National Park. The Big Creek Outdoor Education Center of The Glacier Institute is across the road from the campground. It provides opportunities for children and adults to learn about the diverse natural and cultural resources of Glacier National Park and the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem. The Institute offers field seminars including guided hikes in the Glacier National Park. Although not all the seminars and hikes originate from the Big Creek Outdoor Education Center, some do. Drinkwater and restrooms are provided. Pets are welcome. The maximum recommended trailer length for the area is 40 feet. Please limit your stay to 14 days. The fee for the use of this campground is $10 a day. The day use fee is $3.
Directions: Big Creek Campground is located by taking County Road 486 north 20.5 miles to campground entrance on right. County Road 486 turns into dirt at 12.6 miles.
