Thain Creek Campground is located in Lewis and Clark National Forest at an elevation of 4700 feet. The campground is pack it in, pack it out and located on a hillside above Thain Creek among lodgepole pines and aspen. Two trailheads and several walk-in sites make the campground attractive to those who wish to camp in tents. Wide, level parking aprons are well suited for RVs. Several of the 20 available campsites overlook the creek. Restrooms are provided. Please limit stay to 16 days. Small fee required.
Directions: From Great Falls, take US Highway 89 east 3.3 miles to Highwood/Montana Highway 228 sign. At sign, turn left onto Montana Highway 228 and go 13.9 miles to stop sign. Continue straight onto gravel and dirt roadway, following Thain Creek signs, and go 10.1 miles to T intersection. Turn right, following Thain Creek signs, and go 7.2 miles to Y intersection. Bear left and go 1.1 miles to Recreation Area sign. Continue straight another 0.3 miles to campground. WET WEATHER ALTERNATIVE: Continue on Montana Highway 228 north to Highwood. Follow signs to campground.
