When it comes to Western trout hostelries, it is so nice to find a lodge that Jim Bridger might have found comfortably familiar. It was built of hand-hewn logs, as are the two cabins behind the lodge, and has a wrap-around front porch. Each of the two guest rooms in the lodge, as well as the two cabins on the river, have private baths.Set in a copse of trees, the Old Kirby Place fronts on a section of the Madison River that holds more spectacular pools than the rest of the river. Other sections of the Madison have been described as the world's longest riffle, while we sit on the downstream end of outstanding pool water. The famous streams near the western edge of Yellowstone Park, the Gibbon, Firehole, Gallatin, and Henry's Fork are less than an hour from the Old Kirby Place. Rates do not include guide fees. Fishing with a guide for a couple of days will introduce you to the river and will enhance your fishing experiences thereafter.
Directions: The Old Kirby Place is located on the Madison River, 34 miles south of Ennis on Highway 287. Take the exit mile marker #15 to the west fork of the Madison River.
