Step back to a world where elk and deer graze peacefully in grassy meadows. Where stately forest adjoin national wilderness areas. And where the rustic comfort of the '20s still lives in the great log lodge. Since 1924, the Gordon Ranch has belonged to the Koessler family, being used then, and today, as a working cattle ranch and favorite vacation spot for family and friends. This 1,300 acre retreat still preserves the quiet, natural beauty that is Montana with its pristine waters, grassy meadows and mountain trails, silently marking decades of footsteps among the trail Ponderosa pine and fir forest. A few miles to the east is the Bob Marshall Wilderness area, 1.5 million acres of the wildest country Montana has to offer. To the west is the Mission Mountain Wilderness with its rugged, glacier encrusted mountain peaks and high mountain lakes. Just a few miles down the road is Holland Lake, a true alpine lake, ideal for summer boating and swimming. Driving into the ranch, it is hard to miss the lodge with its large screened porch and authentic log construction. The lodge, which can comfortably sleep ten people, functions as the center of ranch activity. The living room and porch are a natural setting for weddings, retreats, informal business meetings or small conferences. It is also perfect for a family get together or reunion. Supporting the lodge is a fully appointed, commerical-grade kitchen, complete with a restaurant-sized gas stove, sinks, dishwasher, refrigerator and microwave. A TV and VCR are available in a recreational area above the lodge living room. Four rustic cabins are clustered near the lodge, sleeping an additional 15 guests. Made of rough hewn logs, the cabins have one, two or three bedrooms each as well as complete bathroom facilities. Cabins may not be rented without the lodge. In all, 39 people can be accommodated at the ranch with the use of ten day beds. Adult groups not exceeding 29 in number, however, are suggested. With the Gordon Ranch as home base, it is easy to imagine a morning of horseback riding using the facilities of the Holland Lake Lodge. Golf is also available in the communities of Big Fork and Kalispell, approximately 60 miles to the north, and Seeley Lake 20 miles to the south. Perhaps the day is better suited to fly fishing on Holland Creek or the Swan River, or simple hikes through the surrounding forest. One can also enjoy the splendors of Glacier National Park, an easy one day jaunt from the ranch. However you imagine it, Gordon Ranch has the accommodations and recreational opportunities that can take you, your family, your friends and your associates back to a a time when life was a little more relaxed. It is a 'sit back' place where you do your own thing. Available for limited six-day bookings, May through October. No services or recreational facilities (horseback riding, etc) are provided. Staff may be hired for cleaning and/or cooking and staff quarters for sleeping four are available. Guest are required to purchase their own food, although all condiments and staples are on hand.
