Haymaker Wildlife Management Area encompasses 1360 acres.

Management goal: The Haymaker Wildlife Management Area (HWMA) was purchased in 1957 to provide winter range for elk, allow for expansion of the base herd and alleviate depredation on privately owned lands.

Hunting opportunities: Archery and rifle hunting seasons for elk, mule deer, antelope, and black bear, and upland bird hunting are open to licensed hunters during open seasons. Antlerless elk permits are available through the statewide drawing.

Wildlife viewing: Visitors can see elk, mule deer, antelope, and upland birds from roadsides. Black bears are occasionally observed. Nongame and bird-watching opportunities occur year round. This Wildlife Management Area is home to a variety of songbirds, and raptors. The last 4 miles into the game range is a two-track road which is very rough (4wd recommended).

Directions: Haymaker Wildlife Management Area is found in Wheatland County. Go 11 miles west of Harlowton on US Highway 12, then north and west 12 miles to the Morrisy Coulee turnoff, then 4 miles on a two-track road to the Haymaker Game Range. Big game winter range is closed to motorized traffic from December 1 through May 15.
