McGillivray Recreation Site is located on the Kootenai National Forest in northwest Montana at an elevation of 2500 feet. The site is just 7 miles above Libby Dam and adjacent to Lake Koocanusa. This is the spot to get away from it all; something for everyone. There are 50 campsites near picnic shelters and a swimming beach at the lake. Fishing and boating are among the activities to be enjoyed at McGillvray Recreation Site. Restrooms and drinking water are provided. Pets are welcome, but they must be kept on leashes. The maximum recommended trailer length for the area is 32 feet. Please limit your stay to 14 days. You will be asked to pay a small fee for the use of this campground. For group reservations call 293-7773.Special attractions include: 90-mile-long Lake Koocanusa (KOOtenai/CANada/USA--coo/can/oosa), fishing access, high- and low-water boat ramps, swimming beach (no lifeguard), nature trail, group site with 12 covered picnic tables (electrical hookups available; picnickers supply own generator), sinks, large fireplace, flush toilets, fire places, covered kitchen, ample parking, horseshoe pits, softball field, hiking loop trail.
Directions: From Libby, travel 15 miles northeast on State Highway 37. Turn west on FDR 228 and follow for 10 miles to the site.
