The Bitterroot Valley is Montana's best kept secret. Nestled between two mountain ranges on the western edge of our great state, the Bitterroot Valley offers uncommonly beautiful scenery and diverse recreational opportunities for everyone and for every season. Trails will lead you on short hikes or week-long treks through pristine portions of the Bitterroot National Forest. Roads will take you off the beaten path to beautiful lakes and waterfalls or through the heart of the wilderness areas. There are numerous sites of historical significance including the St. Mary Mission (Montana's first settlement), Fort Owen, The Daly Mansion and several museums. Fish, boat ski, raft and swim in one of our many lakes, streams, or rivers. Wildlife photographers, birders and hunters are attracted to the area by the variety and abundance of our wildlife species - the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful destination for wildlife viewing. Come and mingle with the locals while enjoying Rocky Mountain cultural events such as rodeos, a county fair, bluegrass, arts and harvest festivals. Downhill skiing, ski touring, ice skating, snowmobiling and soaking in natural hot springs (enjoyable at all seasons!) will work the body and warm the soul of our winter guests. We invite you to sample our Western Hospitality! Come see us soon! We quite simply feel that as a Chamber of Commerce, we have the very best place for you to visit.
