The Grubstake Restaurant is located 2,000 feet above Hamilton Montana overlooking the Bitterroot Valley. The building is made of logs with sixteen sides and a central fireplace. Access is through a private game preserve and mountain road up the side of Downing Mountain. We are open from early May to early October and request reservations at all times - please phone first!
On Wednesdays through Saturdays we serve our 'Classic' menu - prime rib, steaks, trout, deep-fried chicken, shrimp and other items off the menu. On Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays we serve our 'All you care to eat BBQ Buffet' that includes Chicken and Ribs with our home made BBQ sauce (made from peaches), baked potatoes, corn on the cob, rolls and our home made root beer! All dinners every night include our unique salad bar with some very special salads (like Wheat, Sweet Potato and Cornbread Salads). Be sure to save room for a special dessert Buttermilk Pie.
We are seasonal - one more reason to call first! Generally we are open from the Friday before Mother's Day through the end of September or first weekend in October and start serving as early as 4:30 in the evening. Reservations strongly requested - preferably at least a day ahead.
Directions: Go west on Main Street in Hamilton - and follow the signs. It is only eight miles from Hamilton but the last three miles is gravel mountain road with switchbacks up the side of the mountain. Allow 30 minutes for the drive from town - and please always call ahead first - even if it is last minute.
