Trilobite Lake is a beautiful little lake, set in the cirque of Mt. Holmes, Trilobite Ridge and Dome Mountain. This trip is a good, but long day hike or an even better overnight trip. Start at the Mount Holmes Trailhead and follow the Winter Creek/ Mt. Holmes Trail for 5.5 miles to the big meadows of Winter Creek. Here you'll find the closest campsite to Trilobite Lake and the junction with the Trilobite Lake Trail. The Trilobite Lake Trail heads northwest and climbs about 700 vertical feet; in the next 2.5 miles. It travels through forest that was burned to varying degrees in from the 1988 fire and past a big blowdown from the spring of 1989. There are non-native brook trout in the lake.
