Antelope was named after the graceful animal, the antelope. Large herds of antelope are native to this area.
The town was incorporated in 1913, three years after the first post office was opened. In 1967 a U.S. Navy gunboat was christened the 'Antelope.' Crew members of the boat came to visit Antelope and 28 citizens of Antelope went to Tacoma, Washington to see the boat commissioned.
Antelope is in the extreme northeastern corner of Montana. Twenty miles from Canada and near the North Dakota line, and south of Plentywood on Montana Highway 16.
