The Highwood Bar is a one-room log cabin at the north edge of town and is famous for its' specialty drinks and Friday Night Steak Frys, which require reservations in advance. Homemade lunches are served all day and evening. We serve fresh local beef, salads, soups, and sandwiches. The hand-carved oak back bar, circa 1900, is an attraction for those touring the small town bars famous for their back bars. Highwood is located on the 'back road' from Great Falls to Fort Benton which takes you through the rolling wheat fields and sprawling cattle ranches along the foothills of the Highwood Mountains. Although the state map describes Highway 228 as mostly gravel, it has been totally paved for years and is well maintained all year. Highwood and the Highwood Bar are a perfect representation of what Montana natives refer to as 'the real Montana.'
