Belfry was named after Dr. William Belfry. The town was founded in 1905 and the post office was established in 1906 with Mary Hall as postmaster. The Yellowstone Park Railroad Company was built in 1906.Belfry is located in southwestern Montana, south of Laurel on MT Highway 72. It is just north of the Wyoming border.
