Edgar was named for one of the gold discoverers at Alder Gulch, Henry Edgar. Historical records indicate that the town was started by a man named Thornton. He wanted a town without a saloon in it. He owned the land where the town now sits.Edgar is located in south central Montana, south west of Billings on U.S. Highway 212.
