Grass Range was a trading center, post office and a village before the Milwaukee Railroad made it a station on the branch line to Winnett. The first post office was established in 1883 with John Chamberlain as postmaster. The town was named for some of the finest open grassland used by early cattle ranchers.
Grass Range is located in central Montana, east of Lewistown.
