Moore developed as a dry land homestead town promoted by the Milwaukee Railroad. The town was named for Mr. Moore of Philadelphia who was the financial backer of Richard A. Harlow's Montana Railroad Company, called the 'Jawbone' (the railroad from Harlowton to Lewistown).
South of the Big Snowy Mountains, there are camping and hiking opportunities at Crystal Lake, 20 miles south of Moore.
Moore is located in central area of Montana, west of Lewistown on Highway 87.
