First settled in the late 1870's, Marion was a base camp for the construction of the Great Northern Railroad into Kalispell. It remained on the main line until 1904 when a new route to Whitefish was established. When Lewis Kelsey moved his sawmill from Somers to Marion in the early 1900's, timber became an important part of the local economy. Today, visitors can enjoy the recreational opportunities found on Little Bitterroot Lake or experience life on a working ranch.
Marion is located in northeastern area of Montana, southwest of Kalispell on US Highway 2.
