Ronan is located in the scenic Mission Valley between Flathead Lake and Missoula. .Ronan was named in 1885 after Major Peter Ronan, superintendent of the Flathead Indian Reservation. The area around Ronan was once part of the Flathead Reservation, until 1910 when it was opened for white settlement. People settled, starting farms, and irrigating the land. Ronan now serves as the hub of the agricultural community in the Mission Valley.
